Website Statistics

Here are some things to look out for when you look at your website's statistics.

If you don't have good statistics software then it's highly recommended for you to use Google Analytics to get all the statistics you'll need for free.

... and remember, visitors (or visits) is much more important than hits!

Daily Visitor Patterns
Do you know which day is your busiest and which day is your slowest for your website? You may wish to draw more attention on those slow days, for example: 20% off on Tuesdays, to bring in more people. Even if you're not interested in doing a special like that, it's important that you know the number of your average daily visitors.

How do your visitors find you?
This should be a statistic that you check regularly, especially if you are currently marketing the website in various different places. In addition to this, when your visitor signs up or buys something on your website, you should ask them how they heard about the website. This information is crucial for you to know which marketing medium is working and which is not. As far as which websites recommend your site, this is the statistic to find out.

Where do your visitors come from?
Website's can be viewed by anyone from any country. That's why it's handy to know where your visitors are in the world. You may want to check the terminology you use to make sure everyone can understand you. For example: Post Code or Zip Code, Doonah or Duvet

Don't let your visitors get lost!
It's important that you don't have people leaving your website becase they can't find what they are looking for. Your website should know what they are looking for and show them an easy way to get there. What may be obvious to you, because you know the website very well, could actually be very hard to find for someone who has never been to your website before. Check how many people exit the website on a crucial page, one where you really don't want your visitor to leave on. If you do something to improve this statistic, you could drastically improve your sales!

What do your visitors like?
You may think your visitors like a particular page of your website, but do you know that for sure? Oftentimes, checking out this statistic can be surprising. Be sure you know what your visitors like. Once you know that, then you should play on it, big time! Create more content for it, offer more variations of it, draw more attention to it. If that's what they want, then give it to them! They'll thank you for it!
